Birch Tree Boulder Hug 8x10 Oil On Canvas

This massive (for a birch) tree once started as a little seed that got stuck in a crack at the top of the boulder.  Then over who knows how many years it's roots spread down to the ground and the tree has been hugging that boulder ever since.  Found this amazing scene right next to my campsite at Maidstone State Park in northeastern Vermont a few years ago.  I always knew I would paint it some day but got the inspiration from the recent "Birch Tree Challenge" on DPW.
