Cycad In Bloom 6"x6" Daily Painting

Painted Plein Air in the beautiful Hoomaluhia Botanical gardens on the windward side of Oahu Hawaii. Went very bold with this one, using a palette knife to get alot of movement in the subject. These blooms are huge, about the size of a watermelon! They look very prehistoric. The leaves look like a palm but are tough and waxy.

Hi Dalan
This painting is so captivating! I think it is so for me because it is very much like a mandala. Your compostion draws me in, in , in.
The texture is wonderful. I can just feel the stiffness and structure of this cycad.
Well done!
Steven
